2 Data collection on visits to our website

2.1.1 Type of data and purpose of processing

With every visit by a user to the website of Hermes, certain data is temporarily stored and processed by our web servers in a protocol file. The following data is stored in a protocol file on each access to our website:

  • the anonymized IP address of the requesting computer
  • the date and duration of the user’s visit
  • the identification data of the browser and operating system type used
  • the web pages of Hermes which the user visits
  • the website from which the user has accessed our website

This data is collected to ensure the functionality of the website. Furthermore, the data serves to ensure the security of our information technology systems. An evaluation of the data for marketing purposes does not take place in this context.

Moreover, the IP address is used for so-called geo-localisation (IP geo-location) because on our websites you should get the information you are looking for – and this in the language that is probably most familiar to you.

2.1.2 Legal basis

  • The legal basis for temporarily storing your data can be found in Article 6.1(f) of the GDPR. Our legitimate interest in processing the data lies in the data collection and processing purposes mentioned above.

2.1.3 Length of storage

  • Data is deleted when it is no longer necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was captured. The data is deleted no later than 365 days.

2.1.4 Objection

  • The collecting and processing of data for the purposes mentioned in this section are necessary to operate the Hermes website. As a consequence users have no grounds to raise objection.

The cookies (first-party cookies) used by this Hermes website include temporary session cookies and permanent cookies. The website stores information in the permanent cookies in order to save your personal user settings and to improve your user experience on your next visit (e.g. the language settings you have selected). In the temporary session cookies, the web browser stores technical information that is necessary for the functioning of the website. The storage period of these cookies depends on the periods specified in this section.

Services offered by third parties are also used on this website to evaluate user behaviour or to render internet services. Service providers may use cookies (third-party cookies), tracking pixels or comparable analysis technologies. More detailed information on the internet and analysis technologies used here can be found in the sections below.

Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transferred to a server of Google in the USA, and truncated there. On behalf of the operator of this website, Google will use this information to analyse your use of the website, to compile reports on website activities and to provide the website operator with further services associated with the use of the website and the Internet. The IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics is not linked with any other data held by Google.

Please note that, in order to prevent individual user identification, only truncated IP addresses are processed on this website as we use Google Analytics with the “_anonymizelp()” function.

We use demographics reports from Google Analytics in which data from interest-based advertising from Google as well as visitor data from third-party providers (such as age, gender and interests) is used. This data cannot be traced back to specific individuals and can be deactivated at any time in Google Ad Settings.

3.1 Data privacy statement for the use of Push notifications

You can sign up to receive so-called push notifications. For this purpose, we use the “CleverPush” offer, which is operated by CleverPush GmbH, Nagelsweg 22, 20097 Hamburg (“CleverPush”).

Via our push notifications, you will regularly receive information on new blog posts related to international goods traffic and supply chain management as well as global e-commerce.

In order to sign up for the push notifications, you will need to confirm your browser or device’s request to receive the notifications. This process is documented and stored by CleverPush. For this purpose, the login time as well as a push token or device ID is stored. This data is used on the one hand to be able to send you the push notifications and on the other hand as proof of your registration. The legal basis for this processing is your consent and thus Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a DSGVO.

CleverPush also evaluates our push notifications statistically. CleverPush can thus recognize whether and when our push notifications were displayed and clicked on. This allows us to determine which push notifications interest recipients in order to tailor future messages to the presumed interests of all recipients and thus increase interest in our offer. Additionally, in addition to the push token or device ID, we store the subject focus of the app on which the push notifications were activated (e.g., business, sports, etc.). We also use this information to send push notifications to the relevant subscribers that are in their presumed interests. The legal basis for the processing in each case is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO. The assignment of a push token or device ID to a specific person only takes place if we should be legally obligated to do so, for the defense of claims against us if this is required as evidence, as well as for the possible prosecution of violations of the law.

You can revoke your consent to the storage and use of your personal data to receive our push notifications at any time with effect for the future. Furthermore, you can object to the use of personal data described above on the basis of Art. 6 (1) lit. f at any time. Please revoke your consent for this purpose. You can revoke your consent in the settings provided for this purpose for receiving push notifications in the settings of your device or browser.

Your data will be deleted as soon as it is no longer required to achieve the purpose for which it was collected. Accordingly, your data will be stored as long as the subscription to our push notifications is active.

The following link explains the unsubscribe process in detail: https://cleverpush.com/faq.

For accelerating the retrieval of content (e.g. images) as well as for defending against attacks, CleverPush uses cloudflare.com, an offering of Cloudflare, Inc. as part of a commissioned processing based on the standard contractual clauses.

CleverPush does not store any data on Cloudflare’s servers that contain personal data, but only general content such as text or images. When you retrieve this content, the end device you are using establishes a connection to Cloudflare and this results in the processing of the IP address of the end device you are using.

Use and transmission of personal data

We store the personal data you have provided if this is required in order to answer your enquiry. This data is only passed on to other Hermes companies within only if this is necessary in order to answer your enquiry. This may be the case e.g. if you request information regarding the services of the Austrian Hermes company.
